Facade Improvement Program

The goal of the reimbursable Cambridge Façade Improvement Program is to foster visual changes in commercial and residential structures, which supports the overall community development process of the City.

Hailed as easy, efficient and cost-effective by both applicants and economic development managers, the façade improvement program has enjoyed great success in Cambridge. Since 2012, the city's Facade Improvement Program has helped 65 projects, leveraging approximately $250,000 in public investment to support $588,000 in private reinvestment.

Based upon a $15,000 limit, Cambridge residential owner-occupied properties are eligible to receive up to 50% – or $7,500 — for qualified projects. Businesses can also receive 50% or up to $7,500 for qualifying projects. All eligible façade improvement projects are funded on a reimbursable basis after being pre-approved on a first come, first serve basis.
